MEET KIMBERLY
I’m in Atlanta, I’m 23 years old and I have Scleroderma, Raynaud’s and APS. My family is my motivation!
DIAGNOSIS
When I was eight, I was diagnosed with Raynaud’s and Scleroderma. Some of the challenges I face are getting approval for therapy after I have had finger amputations on my hands. Also, after I had two strokes (Antiphospholipid Syndrome), I did get therapy while I was admitted (3 weeks in rehab) but after I was discharged, it took two months to get occupational therapy and physical therapy approved at home. With COVID-19 going on, it’s challenging to receive medical attention for my Raynaud’s. I have to get my blood work done in another lab because the labs near my home are closed down due to nurse shortages. Through the course of my journey none of the medications have been able to stop finger loss and right now it’s a high possibility I may also lose a toe because of an ulcer. I remain optimistic by seeing the beauty in second chances. I created a page to inspire others and spread optimism: @strong_selflove
LIFE CHANGE
I need help doing my daily activities. I was in a wheelchair for 5 long months. In high school I had to drop out of orchestra because it started affecting my fingers and elbows.
HEALING
I got a dog 2 years ago and he has really helped me push myself because I need to care for him. I love working out because it clears my mind and I get stronger.
STRUGGLE
Growing up I struggled with my confidence because I didn’t know anyone else who had an autoimmune disease.
INSPIRATION
“You can’t choose where you come from but you can choose where you go from there”
“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”
I started to love and appreciate myself each day. Sadly you cannot change the past but you can change how you view yourself.
