In early 2019, I was going through a major transition. All good and wonderful things, but at the time I was very sick dealing with symptoms of my Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, low b12, low ferritin/iron absorption, very low energy — while planning a wedding, finding renters for our home in North Carolina, closing on a new home in Virginia… then moving the dogs, kids and I to Virginia and settle into a brand new routine as a blended family.
During this transition, every day was different. It was filled with appointments, follow up phone calls, meetings, paperwork requests, organizing, purging, packing…
It was a lot.
My knee-jerk reaction to things was a quick, snappy response and it didn’t take long for me to recognize how quickly that happened.
I immediately began to seek familiar. A routine. Something I could dive into every single day without hesitation.
Something that would help be find peace in the moment. Something to draw me into my walk with Jesus while also adjusting my attitude from the transition.
Yes, even though it was all good – it was a lot. And for women like us that are sick every morning we wake up, I knew I needed to find balance again.
One day, a dear friend of mine posted to facebook that if anyone was looking for a daily devotional, that New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp was the one she had been reading for the past year and loved.
A quick order on Amazon and 2 day shipping… I had the devotional in my hands.
And I began a new routine.
Finding comfort in the words that were laid on Paul’s heart to fill the pages of this 365 day devotional.
Day after day, written for my heart.
Day after day, finding comfort in the words on the pages of New Morning Mercies. They are relevant to the struggle I walk through as a broken and sick woman living in a sinful and fallen world.
An intentional moment for me to pause.
Each devotional ends with scripture — an encouragement to open my bible each day and read the words meant to me.
Something I needed during that major transitional time and something I still need.
A gentle reminder to be in His word.
