Paleo Hot Cocoa screams winter to me. It’s one of my favorite holiday drinks and it remains special because it’s one of those staples that only comes out once the temperature drops.
Most traditional hot chocolates are full of sugar (at best), and (at worst) they can be full of chemicals, or modified and artificial ingredients. They may taste good, but if you have an autoimmune condition, inflammatory sugars and artificial chemicals are the last thing you need to be drinking! You shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health to enjoy your holidays.
After changing my diet to better my health, I was challenged to find new ways of making my old favs. Hot Coco was one of those new recipes I taught myself to make. After a few rounds of experimentation, I came up with a delicious, healthy and simple solution! Seriously, it’s only three ingredients! This recipe is also kid approved, which my fellow moms know, means it is goooooood!
Paleo Hot Cocoa
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Favorite Nut Milk I love Elmhurst Milked Cashews for this recipe because it's thicker than almond milk. It also has super clean ingredients- cashews and water- that's it!
- 1/2 Tbsp Organic Cacao I use the brand Nativas
- 2-4 drops Stevia 4 drops seems to be the sweet (pun intended) spot, especially if you want a more authentic "traditional" hot chocolate flavor
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients together. An electric milk frother is perfect for this! Pour blended ingredients into a pot and place over medium-low heat for 5 minutes, or until heated thoroughly. Remove from heat. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
This recipe is also so yummy with oat milk. Oats technically are not Paleo approved because they are grains, but if you use a certified gluten free oat milk, it’s another fantastic option.
Cheers to happier, healthier holidays!
